Are dental implants worth it?

Dr Jas Ladhar has been qualified as a dentist for 30 years and specialises in cosmetic dental treatments, such as dental implants. We are often asked by patients ‘Are dental implants worth it’? So we decided to put this question to Dr Jas. Here is what he said…

As a dentist, I am often asked whether dental implants are worth it, and my answer is typically a resounding “yes.” Dental implants are an increasingly popular option for replacing missing or damaged teeth, and for good reason: they offer a range of benefits that other dental procedures cannot match.

One of the primary advantages of dental implants is their durability. Unlike dentures or other removable prosthetics, dental implants are designed to last for many years – in fact, with proper care, they can last a lifetime. This is because dental implants are made from high-quality materials, such as titanium, which are able to withstand the daily wear and tear of chewing and speaking.

Another benefit of dental implants is their natural appearance. Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants are designed to look and feel just like your natural teeth. This means that you can smile and speak with confidence, without worrying about anyone noticing that you have an implant.

In addition to their aesthetic benefits, dental implants also offer improved function. Because they are anchored directly into your jawbone, dental implants provide a stable foundation for dental crowns, bridges, and other prosthetics. This means that you can eat, drink, and speak with ease, without worrying about your teeth shifting or moving around in your mouth.

Of course, there are some downsides to dental implants as well. For one, they can be quite expensive, especially if you need multiple implants. Additionally, the process of getting dental implants can be time-consuming, as it involves multiple appointments and a period of healing after the implant is placed.

Despite these drawbacks, however, I believe that dental implants are worth it for many patients. They offer a level of comfort, functionality, and appearance that simply cannot be matched by other tooth replacement options, and they can significantly improve your quality of life. Moreover, while dental implants may require a larger initial investment, they are often more cost-effective in the long run, as they can last for many years without needing to be replaced – and there are a number of finance options available to help spread the cost of the treatment.

Of course, the decision to get dental implants is a personal one, and not every patient may be a good candidate for the procedure. If you are considering dental implants, it is important to discuss your options with a qualified dentist who can help you determine whether they are the right choice for your specific needs and budget.
