Gone are the days of chunky metal braces being the only option for orthodontic issues. In recent years, Invisalign has been steadily gaining traction within the dental community, and for good reason. If you’re considering Invisalign, or simply want to learn a little more, allow us to answer those burning questions with our ultimate guide to Invisalign!
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are transparent trays, custom made to fit your teeth perfectly and steadily make the adjustments you need. Every few weeks, your tray is replaced with a brand new one to correct your smile a little more (similarly to the tightening of traditional braces). This process continues until you’re left with the smile of your dreams.
Though Invisalign often serves the same purpose as traditional braces, there are a few key differences that really set it apart from the crowd.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign comes with an array of benefits that braces cannot offer. Let’s take a look at just a few of these:
- Invisalign trays are easily removable and can be taken out for eating. Unlike traditional braces, there’s no need to worry about getting food caught in your Invisalign.
- If you’re not a huge fan of the look of traditional braces, Invisalign could be just the game-changer you’ve been looking for. Your custom-made aligners will fit the teeth like a glove and are completely transparent, so nobody will know they’re there but you.
- Most importantly, Invisalign works. Whether you’re dealing with gaps in your smile, crowded teeth, crossbite or something else, Invisalign proves itself time and time again.
- Invisalign trays can be removed for cleaning, which means you can typically achieve a more thorough cleanse than with traditional braces.
Is Invisalign Suitable for me?
Invisalign treatment can yield outstanding results for a wide range of orthodontic issues, including crooked teeth, overbite, underbite, crossbite and open bite, gaps in the teeth and overcrowding. Arrange a consultation to find out more about what Invisalign could do for you.
What is the Process of Getting Invisalign Like?
Starting out your Invisalign journey is in many ways fairly similar to getting traditional braces. Firstly, you will meet with your orthodontist, who will assess your teeth and establish the right treatment plan for you. This generally involves a 3d scan of your mouth using our iTero 3D Digital scanner, which can be used to create your unique trays.
Invisalign will craft anything from 12 to 48 custom trays for you to progress through during treatment, gradually correcting your smile. Your aligners should be kept in at all times, apart from when eating, drinking, brushing or flossing, and you can expect to move on to the next tray every 2 weeks or so.
How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?
Treatment typically takes 12-18 months, though you can see results in a matter of weeks. During this time, you will meet with your orthodontist regularly to ensure your treatment is working as expected.
